Indian High Commission in the UK, and Indian community in UK jointly organised a special event to celebrate India’s 69th
Independence Day. The celebration took place at the Indian Gymkhana Club, London on Aug 16th Sunday
Indian High commissioner to UK Mr. Ranjan Mathai hoisted the Indian flag followed by National anthem. Later, in his message he appreciated the entire Indian Community living in UK for keeping the Indian spirit and carrying the culture andtraditions. He also quoted the messages given by Indian President and Prime Minister on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations at Delhi.
Around 30,000 plus guests attended this event. Guests who belong to different states and regions of India travelled from across the UK to attend the event . Many stalls were set up to represent respective states, communities, and UK based NRI organisations.
Telangana Nri Forum(TeNF) in its consecutive second year represented Telangana state, and this year with new spirit and enthusiasm setup a stall to promote Telangana, its culture, tradition, business opportunities, tourism, food specialities and also Telangana's exceptional leadership and governance . This was showcased with a pictorial exhibition.
Mr. Ranjan Mathai , Indian High commissioner, British MPs of Indian origin Virendra Sharma and Seema Malhotra, Sunil Chopra , Ex-Mayor of London Southwark and number of UK Councillors of Indian origin visited the stall and appreciated the efforts of TeNF and the way we are promoting and marketing new state of Telangana to the world.
TeNF representatives took the guests through the exhibited items and explained about the past one year achievements under the leadership of Hon’ble CM K. Chandrashekar Rao Garu and awards received for the excellent performance.
His excellency Ranjan Mathai paid tribute to the pictures of National leaders, Telangana ideologue Prof. Jayshankar Sir, Kaloji garu then cut the cake to mark the Independence Day celebrations at Telangana stall specially. He shared information he has on development of new state and opined that Telangana state has a great potential to grow, wished us good luck.
There was a huge range of cultural programs organised by Nehru centre. For the first time in the history of UK, Telangana folk dance was performed by TeNF – women cell members, which steal the show and was widely applauded across the communities. Special appreciation was given to TeNF for being part of the Indian communities’ cultural show and representing new state of Telangana.
Other visitors and guests who belong to Telangana personally felt proud to see Telangana stall and expressed their happiness and appreciated our efforts.
We served our authentic Telangana food – Hyderabadi Biryani to all the guests who visited our stall, which was widely appreciated by all.
