Telugu Association of Memphis has announced it’s first event of 2015 — Makara Sankranthi Celebrations on January 24th. TAM is looking forward to your enthusiastic participation in the planned competitions and cultural programs promoting TELUGU culture and tradition.Registrations for competitions and cultural programs are open. Please see details below:
Competitions – January 11th & 18th, 9am to 12pm

Mutyaala Muggulu Rangoli competition

Eligibility: Women, age 16 years and above

Aaha Yemi ruchi Cooking competition for kids and adults

Theme: Authentic Sankranthi pindi vantalu

Eligibility:  Section_1: Kids, age 10 — 19 years

Section_2: Adults, age 20 years and above

Telugu Geyaalu Reciting Telugu nursery rhymes

Eligibility: age 1 – 5 years

Other Information: e.g. Chitti chilakamma, amma kottindaa?

Telugu Padyaalu Reciting Telugu poems

Eligibility: age 6 – 12 years,

Other Information: e.g. Vemana padyaalu, Sumati padyaalu

Chinni Krushnudu Chaya Chitram Photo contest of the kids dressed as Baala Krushnudu

Eligibility: Section_1: age 3 – 15 months

Section_2: age 16 months – 3 years

Other Information: Please email your photograph to [email protected] with subject line ‘Chinni Krushnudu Photo Contest’. Please note that the last date for submission of your photograph is January 18th 11:59pm.  Picture size should be at least 800 pixels wide. Be sure to include the child’s name and age in the submission.

Gaalipatam Competition for making kites. Bring your home made kite to competition. The winning kite will be displayed in the event décor. 

Eligibility: All 

Other Information: Please note that this competition is not for flying kites.

Kesaalankarana Hair styles competition for girls

Eligibility: age 8 — 16 years

Other Information: Come with your hairstyle to competition.

Nakhaalankarana Nail art competition for girls

Eligibility: age 8 — 16 years

Other Information: Come with your nail art done to competition.

Gorintaaku Mehndi competition for girls/women

Eligibility: age 10 years and above

Other Information: Come with your material and show your talent in 30 minutes.

Pitta Kathalu Short moral story telling competition for kids

Eligibility: age 4 – 6 years

Chitra Lekhanam Drawing competition for kids

Theme: Republic India

Eligibility: Section_1: age 6 – 10 years

Section_2: age 11 – 14 years

Vyaasa Rachana Essay writing in English for kids

Topic:My trip to India

Eligibility: age 7 — 12 years

Other Information: 30 minutes time limit, essay not to exceed two pages.

 

 

Cultural Programs – January 24th

Chinni Taaralu Fashion show for kids

Eligibility:age 1 — 12 years

Other Information: Allowed for first 20 registrants only

Haasya Jallulu Comedy skits by adults and kids

Eligibility: no age limit

Other Information: Only 3 slots available on first come first served basis. Duration of the skit should be no longer than 10 minutes.

Naatyanjali Dance performances by kids/adults

Theme: Indian Festivals, Folk, Classical, Semi Classical or Fusion.

Eligibility: age 5 years and above

Other Information: Minimum 5 participants in each performance.  The performance should not last longer than 6 minutes.

Mana Teluginti Aadapaduchu Award for best traditionally dressed woman depicting Telugu culture

Eligibility: age 21 years and above

Other Information: Prior registration NOT required.

Nootokka Jillala Andagaadu Award for best traditionally dressed man depicting Telugu culture

Eligibility: age 21 years and above

Other Information: Prior registration NOT required.

Bhogipallu Bhogipallu for infants and kids

Eligibility: all kids

Other Information: Prior registration NOT required.

Chilakaa Gorinkalu Fashion show for couples

Eligibility: age 21 years and above

Other Information: 15 couples dressed in traditional attire showcasing Telugu culture. Registration required.
