The visually impaired students from the Academy have undergone systematic training in all the dance forms for the past decade and excel in their performances on stage at par with non-visually impaired artists, thereby giving the performances their unique quality. As ambassadors for Indian culture, ancient classical dance and the abilities and talents of people with disabilities, Tours like these raise awareness of the issues facing people with disabilities and delight, motivate audience with the spectacle of dance.
The unique dance performance would include Bharathnatyam, Kuchupudi from Andhra Pradesh, Folkdances like Bhangra from Punjab, Kollatam from Karnataka and Dance Ballets. The uniqueness of performances can be attributed to the fact that these highly difficult traditional forms of classical dances are performed by visually impaired youths. The visually impaired students of the Academy learn these dance forms through a special and unique technique called “the touch and feel method.”.
