ATA, American Telugu Association [ATA], a 28 year old Telugu Organization serving the  interests of  burgeoning Telugu Community in USA elected Parmesh Bheemreddy as its new President at the board meeting attended by large number of ATA Trustees, Executive Board members and other supporters. Upon being elected, Mr.Parmesh Bheemreddy was promptly sworn in as the President on January 19th at the board meeting held in Las Vegas.

 

Born in Pothireddypadu village of Nagarkurnool district of Telangana Mr.Bheemreddy came to US on a student visa to pursue higher education in Computer Science. Being a software professional himself, established a firm and helped many students and professional from India to settle down in US. Married to a cardiologist Sarita, Bheemreddy is a well-known Community Volunteer, co-founder of Palamuru NRI forum and conducted various charity activities across the district.. An avid community activist, Mr.Bheemreddy has been an integral part of ATA since Inception and served in various positions like Secretary for the 12th Convention and as a Convener for the Philadelphia Conference in 2014.

ATA board was sworn in on the occasion as well, raising the Board of Trustees count from 27 to 31. Mr.Bhuvanesh Boojala from DC Metropolitan area was elected unanimously as the President Elect. ATA elected Venu Sankineni as Secretary, Sharath Vemula as Joint Secretary, Ravi Patlola as Treasurer and Arvind Muppidi as Joint Treasurer. ATA Advisory Chair Hanmanth Reddy garu congratulated the new board and wished them luck in its future endeavors.

 

Presiding over the board meeting, the new president not only vowed to preserve and strengthen the Telugu community across North America but also promised to further promote the literary, cultural, social, educational and rich cultural values of the community strictly abiding by the constitution of ATA. Unveiling his vision, Mr.Bheemreddy quoted that ATA under his leadership will include focus areas like immigration, SAT Training, exchange student onboarding procedures, Medical and Dental camps for Senior Citizens and Visitors, Matrimonial and Emergency Services.

 

Mr.Bheemreddy was ecstatic to announce that the new ATA Foundation Scholarship program will award 10 scholarships to meritorious students of economically backward classes of $1000 each. Mr.Bheemreddy thanked the outgoing President Karunakar Asireddy, EC and board for its outstanding contribution to ATA and expanding the organization to new areas like Nashville and Boston areas.

ATA Youth Award presented to Roni Akurati

Young Hollywood American born Telugu kid Roni Akurati has been awarded with American Telugu Association (ATA) youth award for his accomplishments in acting. He received this award from Shri K Keshav Rao MP Rajya Sabha and Shri Jitender Reddy MP Lok Sabha on july1st at ATA silver jubilee celebrations convention 2016 in Chicago IL.

 

His parents have recognized the potential actor in Roni at the age of 5 and have given him immense support to exhibit his acting skills at various platforms. Roni Akurati is a rising youthful Hollywood performing artist and Stand-up humorist.

Roni Started his vocation as a theater on-screen character and assumed the part of an Indian Changeling kid in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, as Tiny Tim in “A Christmas Carol” and part of Mowgli in Disney generation “The Jungle Book”, which was played at Goodman Theater Chicago, IL and Huntington Theater Boston, MA.

 

His acting profession swung towards TV and movies, His TV shows include, “Animal Practice” for NBC , “Deadtime Stories and Henry Danger” for nickelodeon  ,”Another Period” with Ben stiller for Comedy Central, and several other web series.

 

He acted in a Hollywood feature film “Growing up smith”, where he played in a lead title part. This motion picture was chosen for word chief at Seattle International film celebration and Montreal Film Festival and many more festivals and will be out in theatres soon. He likewise performs stand-up comic drama with exhibitions at Hollywood Improv theater where Jerry Seinfeld began his career and Flapper Comedy Club.

Lead India 2020 Foundation organized Meet and Greet with Sri Swamy Goud, Chairman, Legislative Council, Telangana and a seminar on the Community Service by Indian Americans in New York on Sunday, Nov 1,2015 at The Cotillion, Jericho, NY  to raise awareness of the community service rendered by Indian American philanthropists, humanitarians in New York. Sri Swamy Goud, who himself is running a charity association to help orphans in Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest of the evening.
 
The event is organized by Mr.Srinivas Guduru, Vice President of Lead India 2020 Foundation under the guidance of Hari Eppanpally, Chairman and Srinivas Ganagoni, President of Lead India 2020 Foundation.
 
The Chief Guest Sri Swamy Goud said this is one of the memorable events that he had attended in the last 18 days of his whirlwind tour of US. He praised the role played by the Indian Americans in community development, serving the motherland.  He is inspired by the Seva motive of the individuals and he is taking this precious memory to back home and will do the best to improve the environment to facilitate and help the philanthropist’s to serve more.  He commended Lead India 2020 organization for organizing the event.
 
Mr.Hari Eppanapally, Chairman of Lead India 2020, said the organization was started to empower the youth in India.  He detailed the vision of Dr. Abdul Kalam, whom he is closely worked with for several years.   He said sustainable development of a country is only possible by providing Affordable Education, Affordable Quality Health Care and Spiritual living.  Having dinner together by family improve harmony in the family and bring peace to the nation.

Mr.Srinivas Ganagoni, President, Lead India 202 Foundation introduced leaders from various organizations Laxman Anugu (TDF), Dr.Stanley Reddy (NATA), Mr. Pradeep Samala (NATA), Dr. Rajinder Jinna (ATA) Sri Ragha Polavarapu (TLCA) Mr.Venkatesh Mutyala (TLCA), Mr.Satya Challapalli (TLCA), Mr.Ranjeet Kyatham (T.A.T.A), Mr.Ashok Chinta Kunta(T.A.T.A),  Mr.Madhavi Chintakunta, (T.A.T.A.) and TLCA past presidents, Mr.Shiva Muthiki, Mr.Velur Gupta, Mrs.Krishnasri Gandam on the occasion and Mr. Ganagoni said that there are many Indian Americans and organizations are doing community services here in USA and back home and we all should be proud of their services towards the community.
 
Trisha Guduru, Miss South Asia International and the President of UNICEF Chapter in New York, spoke on the need to make voluntary service by the high school and college students mandatory and offer credits for the hours of service rendered.  These credits be given priority by the schools, colleges, professional institutions and employers as well.  An independent body be created by the government under the leadership of a youth icon to promote and provide impetus to volunteerism.
 
It was a memorable evening for the guests.  The speakers detailed the activities they undertake to help the needy here in US and back home, the speakers include:
Dr. Raghava Rao Polavarapu, a noted orthopedic surgen in Brooklyn, New York.  Smt. Tulasi Polavarapu, a leading gynecologist and Obstetrics practicing in New York presented their efforts on how they are involved in the cancer prevention and cure to the audience with their presentation.
 
Dr. Vasundhara Kalasapudi, is a practicing Psychiatrist and Founder & Executive Director of India Home.  She explained the services render by India Home. Dr. kalaspudi spoke and presented the activities of the India Home that provides social, psychological, recreational, and spiritual services in a culturally sensitive environment.
Dr. Vinni Jayam, the leading Cardiac Electrophysiologists in Long Island, spoke on this seminar and identified lot of gaps in India and rigidness in the community and he requested Telangana Govt and Indian Govt to serve the service professionals and provide an environment or a structure where interested NRIs can render their services back home in India. He is recognized nationally on intervention and consults on the use and development of defibrillators, pacemakers and other devices to regulate the heart.
 
 Mr. Krishna Maddipatla, Founder/CEO of Maddipatla foundation believes that Education is a fundamental right for every citizen.  Issues of ‘social’ distance – arising out of caste, class and gender differences – deny children equal opportunities.  His foundation is actively involved in providing training to the young prisoners across NY and make them self-sufficient people who can live there life on their own without going in the wrong direction.
 
Mr. Nehru Kataru, explained the services that Mana Badi, an educational system focusing on teaching Telugu to the younger generation in US. The organization offers classes to the kids and young adults to teach Telugu, Telugu culture.  They organize cultural activities to nurture and pass on our rich culture to the future generations.
Dr. Madhu Korrapati, is a Nephrologist in Mineola, NY, a committed doctor providing up-to-date, high quality care with a focus on spending time with patients and families. Dr. Korrapati believes that if 10% of the Indian wealthy population takes a task of helping others the poverty can be eliminated and he urged the Indian Govt. to be a transparent and allow the NRIs to continue their selfless services.
 
At the end Mr.Srinivas Guduru, Vice-President, Lead India 2020 Foundation, thanked Sri Swamy Goud, the local leadership,  and the guests for making the event a grand success.  He said the event wouldn’t have been successful without the help of Shankar Rasaputra in planning and execution of the event. Ashok Chintakunta for taking care of the logistics of the entire program and photography, Smt. Sirisha Tunuguntla for preparation of the profiles of the speakers, Yogi Vanama and Rama Vanama for help with Food arrangements.
 
The event is moderated by Vamsi Guduru with a passion and entertained the audience with his humor.

The American Telugu Association, an umbrella body of the community in the United States, has held its board meeting at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sudhakar Perkari was elected as the new president of the organization, popularly known as ATA.

Aside from the ATA board members, standing committee heads, regional coordinators and prominent Las Vegas and California community members attended the January 17th, 2015 meeting. In all, more than 200 delegates came from across the US.

Incumbent President Karunakar Madhavaram passed on the baton to the new president. Along with Perkari, a revamped board of trustees has also been installed..

ATA unanimously elected 14 of its board of trustees (BOT) from different categories: Asireddy Karunakar, Muppidi Arvind and Sreeram Reddy, Cheemarla Narender, Patlolla Ravi, Ajay Aleti, Anantula Lokesh, Banala Sridhar, Bheemreddy Parmesh, Dargula Srinivas, Kukunoor Vinod, Lingala Hari, Sankeneni Venugopal.

All members of BOT took the oath and promised to uphold the ATA constitution and bylaws. The trustees will be in place for a four-year term beginning this year (2015-2018).

 

ATA new board has elected Karunakar Asireddy from Atlanta as President-Elect in a unanimous vote

Perkari, in his presidential address, noted that ATA will be 25 years old this year. Having reached the major milestone, ATA, as an organization, continued to remember its main mission: to preserve and maintain the heritage of all American Telugus; to promote literary, cultural, educational, religious, social and economic activities of the community, and other aspects as mentioned in the ATA charter. He unveiled the new committee’s vision and plan of action for the next two years. ATA will celebrate its silver jubilee, which is followed by the 14th biennial three-day national convention in Chicago in 2016.

Narender Cheemarla was appointed as the convener and Satya Kandimalla as the chief adviser for the 2016 ATA gathering in Chicago, which will also formally celebrate the silver jubilee. Remaining team for 2016 will be announced soon.

Perkari thanked the immediate past president Madhavaram and his team, and congratulated them for their successful term. San Diego: Dr. Samba Reddy, professor of neuroscience and experimental therapeutics at Texas A&M University College of Medicine, has been elected as a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), a lifetime recognition and the highest professional honor of achievement in pharmaceutical field.

The award was presented by the AAPS President Dr. Marilyn Morris at the 2014 AAPS Annual Meeting and Exposition in San Diego on November 2, 2014.Pharma Scientist Dr. Samba Reddy Elected as AAPS Fellow

The AAPS recognizes outstanding researchers with a Fellow designation. Dr. Reddy, a renowned expert in neurotherapeutics, was selected on the basis of “professional excellence as exemplified by a sustained level of superior and distinguished contributions that have a substantial impact in the pharmaceutical field”.

Dr. Reddy joined the Texas A&M faculty in 2008 and was previously honored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with the Fellow Award for Research Excellence for the year 2000.  He is internationally respected for his contributions to neurotherapeutics, neurosteroid mechanisms, and new treatments for epilepsy and brain diseases. His work is centered on finding better medications for treatment of brain disorders such as epilepsy, brain injury, and chemical neurotoxicity.

He has made pioneering contributions that include development of a neurosteroid-replacement therapy for epilepsy, new epilepsy medication ganaxolone, and tonic inhibition therapy for persistent seizures and neurotoxicity. He successfully designed many model systems, treatment strategies, and first-in-class agents for complex brain disorders. He has published 120 papers, authored 6 books, and has made over 150 presentations worldwide.

Dr. Reddy serves as an expert member in federal committees in Washington such as NIH, DOD, and the United States pharmacopeia (USP).  He is an editor-in-chief of an international pharmaceutical journal.  He obtained a pharmacy degree and doctorate in pharmacology prior to special postdoctoral training at NIH.

He is a native of Warangal in India. He traveled thousands of miles to Texas to excel in research and became a highly regarded professor. He has been honored with excellence awards by many associations including BAPS, NATA, TANA and ATA. Congratulations to Dr. Reddy for this prestigious award and bringing honors to the Indian community.

  • Date: October 18th (6pm to 11pm) . Semifinals and Finals will be played on October 19th from 8am to 12 pm or October 25th ( 6pm to 11pm) depending on the number of teams registering for the tournament and venue availability
  • Registration Fees: 130$/team ( 8 members Max).
  • Trophies will be awarded to Winners, Runners and Semi-Finalists.
  • Refreshments will be provided.
