Portland Telugu Samithi VP, Founder and Member respectively, Pemmaraju Rao, Lalitha Ram and Murthy Madhira hosted a marvelous musical event in the city of Portland, Oregon on October 23, 2015.
Vamsee Rama Raju, Managing Trustee of Vegesna Foundation in Hyderabad, India was present along with two eminent singers, Sridevi and P.V. Ramana. Their tour across the United States is organized with support from Vanguri Chittena Raju from Houston, to raise funds for the differently-abled children.
In honor of the famous poet Devulapalli’s birthday on November 1, the singers sang romantic songs like “prathee rathri vasantha rathri” from the film Ekaveera, and soulful numbers like “aakasa veedhilo haayiga egirevu” from the film Malliswari.
Portland’s own musical talent consisting of Mini, Sharda, Sravan, Ramesh and Jyothi sang “ghana ghana sundara” etc. and a children’s group from Eswara Music Academy sang 2 songs from the CD Vennella Vaana, produced by Lalitha Ram and composed by Krishna Prasad, with songs sung by himself and Mani Sastry.
Devulapalli awards for writing and fine arts were presented to young authors and several vibrant participants from Portland Mana Badi won the awards.
Families enjoyed a sumptuous dinner, followed by melodious songs, hosted by the charming MC Veena. When the singers sang current songs from Bahubali etc., the guests of all ages moved into the mood for dancing. Amidst all the joy and goodwill, Vegesna Foundation successfully raised funds for its cause, and moved on to the next city. Hats off to Portlanders for their awareness and generosity.
