Bathukamma and Dasara Samburalu – 2015 hosted by TDF-LA in Los Angeles on Oct 17th was MEGA SUCCESS with over eight hundred people (from all 5 of Los Angeles area counties) showing up at the event in this joyful evening for the first time in the history of Los Angeles Telangana events.
Participants were very enthusiastic about this first ever big Bathukamma event ever hosted by any organization in Los Angeles. They brought colorful bathukammas arranged in traditional style using rare to get real, native flowers like Thangedu, Banthi, Malle, Chamanthi, Gummadi, Ganneru, Mandara etc. Women and children had great time and fun at the event, joyously dancing to the Bathukamma tunes/songs non-stop for a very long time. Men too had a great time enjoying the colorful evening cheering up to their women and children playing bathukamma aata and kolatam.
Event started with new Bathukamma warm-up/popular hit songs released this year by various popular TV channels and private albums. This was followed by bathukamma and kolatam aata by all women and kids, tirelessly dancing to the traditional popular bathukamma songs chiming in to the all-time popular songs like yememi puvvoppune gowramma…, okkesi puvvesi chanda maama…, boddemma boddemma kol etc.,
Bathukamma/Kolatam competitive performances were major attractions at the event. Well-choreographed popular bathukamma songs Repalle vaada lona krishnamoorthy by Valley kids, Podala podala gatla naduma oh racha gummadi by ‘Valley Vanithalu’, and Veera Badi Theega Bare Sandamama by ‘Telangana Ada biddalu’ from Orange County were popular and well received and cheered by the audience. Kids too had great time playing kolatam to the bathukamma tunes.
Participants after the conclusion of bathukamma aata performed Pooja and then carried Bathukammas for the nimajjanam to nearby water body singing Gowramma send-off aarti songs like poyi raa gowramma… poyi ravamma…
After the Bathukamma nimajjanam ‘Jammi’ pooja was performed by priest to celebrate Dasara with special attraction of having real Jammi tree. After the Jammi pooja people exchanged jammi leaves with friends, elders and relatives to greet them and seek blessings. After this people danced to the open floor popular Telangana folk Teenmaar songs, rejoicing the event.
TDF-LA could make this Bathukamma and Dasara Samburalu as a free entry event and also provided free tea/snacks, cold drinks, and dinner to all the participants.
TDF-LA thanked participants for making this event grand success and attributed this success to their active participation, bringing colorful Bathukammas, performing awesome bathukamma/kolatam dances entertaining the crowd and participating in all other segments of the event.
